The Samsung SGH-F490 is unlike most touch screen phones, well, you could compare it to the iphone, but Samsung has a real nice phone here. Whats makes this phone unquie, read on.

First off, this phone is a gsm device with 3g. Sorry US, no 3g for you. But running on the 900,1800 and 1900 bands, and 2100 for UMTS. You still can get some usage in the US, with edge just not on ATT.

Check out the unboxing video.

The SGH-F490 is all touch screen with what Samsung calls the Haptic feedback. Think of it as a short burst of vibration with each finger press. Very well timed and does not get in the way. The overall hardware is solid, the phone has a good weighty feel. The screen is bright and clear. The 5mp camera is fast and takes nice pictures. The time to shoot for the camera is slightly faster the Nokia N95. The camera has auto foucs and image stabilization.

This phones is thin. Thinner then the HTC Touch Cruise.

The SGH-F490 has a regular size headphone jack, so no mini headphones weirdness needed.

On to the interface. Check out the video for the details.

Thoughts and final conclusions. A new, novel approach to the mobile os interface. A featured camera with auto focus that takes nice quality pictures. The phones is missing some more advanced features such as advanced pim functions and wifi. But if you like Samsung phones and your in the market for a touch screen phone with a nice camera, then the Samsung SGH-F490 is for you.
